Location, location, location
Our apiary is located in the fairy-tale village of Strašnik near Petrinja, in Banovina. The apiary, surrounded by chestnut forests and rich flower meadows, offers a view of Petrova gora, Zrinska gora, Plješevica and Hrastovačka gora on the other side. In good weather, Sljeme and Sveta Gera can also be seen.
And so castania was born.
This is a unique place in Banovina. Due to the low light pollution, the area is a favorite among sky lovers because from here, far from the city lights, one can observe the night sky undisturbed. It was this night sky, namely the constellation Scutum (Shield), visible from our apiary, that served as the inspiration for our logo.

Banovina (Banija) is perfect for honey production and organic farming, especially chestnut honey. Banovina has the highest concentration of sweet chestnuts in Croatia, and the largest part of the 7,325 hectares of forest area under sweet chestnuts in Sisak-Moslavina County is located here. This is 48.8 percent of all chestnut forests in Croatia. Banovina's chestnut forests are famous throughout Croatia, so many beekeepers bring their hives to graze here. Local beekeepers can also thank the large acacia forests for their top-quality honey, as well as the untouched meadows where bees can freely collect medicinal nectar.
